Suyama

Suyama route is second oldest climbing route. This used to be the most used route before the Gotemba train station opened, but it was abandoned when the Imperial Japanese army took land across the trail for a practice range. There is still an self defense base so the current trail goes around the range.
This is one of my favorite route up Mount Fuji because it is very quiet with many wooded area. Except for walking through the local town near the shrine, the trail goes into wooded area and the scenery is very beautiful unlike the other routes.
There is also a public toilet mid-way up the mountain at Mizugazuka parking lot where there is also a small restaurant. During the summer season, there is also a bus from/to Mizugazuka parking lot and to New Fujimiya Fifth station.
There is currently a local bus from the Gotemba station to Suyama Sengenjinja but it only runs couple of times a day. So, be sure to check the bus schedule when climbing and descending this route.
The other down point of this route is, it is very long with very few huts. If you're not too fit, don't take this route because there would be no people to assist you and there isn't too many places to rest.
